Meet Bre Shoots

Hi, I’m Brianna, a photographer, student, and storyteller based in Southfield, MI. My camera has always been a way for me to connect with people, to honor the beauty in everyday life, and to make space for the moments that often go unnoticed. I’m drawn to capturing the small gestures that say more, and I see photography not just as a single snapshot, but as a way of listening and preserving memory.
Beyond the lens, I’m also deeply immersed in community work and learning, which shapes how I approach my craft: with curiosity, care, and intention.
Artist Statement
I am a student of feeling, always curious, always learning, always reaching for a deeper understanding of my craft and myself. Photography is how I listen to the world. It’s how I hold space for the fullness of the Black experience, from everyday moments to intimate milestones. My lens lingers where complexity resides: joy alongside grief, anger intertwined with tenderness, love tangled with confusion. I don’t seek to simplify; I only seek to witness honestly.
I aim to capture feeling in-camera, not through heavy editing, but by trusting the rawness of the moment. I want the viewer to feel the scene before they try to interpret it—to recognize something that sits just outside of language.
My hope is always the same: that my work brings comfort, even when it stirs something deeper. That in seeing these images, people feel less alone in their own contradictions. Because to be human is to hold many truths at once. My work lives in that holding.
Exhibitions and Competitions
I am honored to have had my work featured in two galleries, the UM Detroit Center and the Edsel Ford House Teague Gallery, and to have been selected as a finalist for the University of Michigan campus-wide Peaceful Photo Competition.
